Venice Photographer — Couples, Proposals, Elopements & Families
Venice isn’t just a backdrop. It’s a feeling — soft light on still water, quiet footsteps on ancient stone, and a cinematic atmosphere you simply can’t recreate anywhere else in the world.
I’m Serena Genovese, a Venice photographer with over 15 years of experience working with couples, families, and anyone who wants to bring something real home from this city. Whether you’re planning a surprise proposal on a hidden bridge, an elopement at sunrise, a romantic couples session, or a family morning in the quieter corners of the city — this is what I do, and I’d love to do it for you.
What Does a Venice Photographer Actually Do?
A Venice photographer specializes in creating photo experiences in one of the world’s most visually iconic cities. But the best sessions here aren’t about ticking off landmarks — they’re about finding the version of Venice that feels true to you.
That means choosing the right time of day, the right areas, the right pace. Venice changes dramatically depending on when and where you are. Early morning feels empty and cinematic. Golden hour feels warm and romantic. Midday in San Marco feels like a crowd. Knowing the difference is everything.
I plan every session around light, privacy, and the story you want to tell — not just the most photographed spots.
Who I Photograph in Venice
Couples & Engagement Sessions
Venice is one of the most romantic cities in the world, and an engagement session here becomes something you’ll look at for the rest of your life. I photograph couples who are visiting Venice and want something more than tourist photos — something editorial, intimate, and real.
Sessions can include gondola rides, hidden canals, elegant architecture, open lagoon views, and the kind of quiet corners most visitors never find.

Surprise Proposals
Planning a proposal in Venice? I’ve photographed hundreds of them — gondola proposals, rooftop proposals, bridge proposals, sunrise proposals — and every single one is different. My job is to be invisible until the moment that matters, then be exactly where I need to be.
I work with you in advance to plan timing, location, and logistics so the moment feels completely natural and unplanned — even when it’s been perfectly orchestrated.

Elopements
A Venice elopement is one of the most intimate, effortless ways to start your marriage. Whether you’re exchanging symbolic vows in a hidden courtyard or making it official at the Comune di Venezia, I guide you through the full experience — from timeline planning to vendor recommendations — so you can simply be present.
Elopement sessions start at 3 hours and are designed to tell a complete story of your day.

Families
Venice with kids can feel chaotic — but it can also be magical. I photograph families in a relaxed, documentary style that captures real moments: the way your daughter holds your hand on a bridge, the chaos of a vaporetto ride, the gelato stop that becomes the best photo of the trip.
No forced poses. Just your family, in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Honeymoon & Anniversary Sessions
If you’re coming to Venice on your honeymoon or to celebrate an anniversary, a photo session is one of the best investments you can make. You’ve chosen one of the most beautiful cities in the world — let me help you remember it the way it actually felt.
Best Time of Day for Photos in Venice
Early morning (sunrise to 9am) is the most cinematic and private time in Venice. Streets are empty, light is soft and golden, and the city feels like it belongs only to you. This is when Venice looks the way it does in films.
Late afternoon / golden hour gives you warm, directional light that makes everything glow. It’s busier than morning, but with the right route planning we can still find intimate corners.
Midday is generally the hardest time for photos in Venice — harsh light and heavy crowds. If this is your only option, I’ll plan areas accordingly.
Evening / blue hour can be incredibly atmospheric, especially near the water. The city lights start to reflect and everything takes on a quiet, moody feel.
Best Locations for a Venice Photo Session
Venice has famous spots — but the most emotional photos usually happen where you can actually breathe. Here are the locations I work with most:
Traditional Venice — narrow alleys, historic façades, hidden courtyards, and authentic local life. A beautiful variety of textures and light within a short walking route.
Secret Venice — off the tourist track entirely. These are the corners locals know: quiet bridges, unexpected colour, the real soul of the city. Perfect if you want something that feels genuinely undiscovered.
Private Rooftop — there is nothing quite like looking out over the Venice skyline from a private terrace. Exclusive, cinematic, and unforgettable — especially for proposals or sunset sessions.
Romantic Bridge — Venice’s bridges are some of the most intimate settings in the city. The right one at the right time creates photos that feel both iconic and deeply personal.
San Giorgio Maggiore — the island just across the lagoon offers open water views, beautiful architecture, and far fewer people than the centro storico. Elegant and calm.
San Marco area — iconic for a reason. Timing is everything here — I work this area at sunrise when the square is empty and the light is extraordinary.
Gondola Tour — a gondola session slows everything down. Drifting through the smaller canals, away from the vaporetto routes, gives you the most romantic and uniquely Venetian experience possible.
Jesolo Lido — if you want a beach setting near Venice, Jesolo offers a completely different mood: open sky, sand, and sea.
Custom packages with water taxi — for clients who want a more exclusive, luxury experience across multiple locations in less time, I offer custom sessions with water taxi support. This lets us move efficiently between areas — San Giorgio, open lagoon views, hidden canals — without the walk, and adds a cinematic, high-end feel to the entire day.

What to Expect During a Venice Photo Session
Most of my clients are camera-shy. That’s completely normal, and it’s something I work with every single day.
I don’t direct you with stiff poses. Instead, I give you simple, natural prompts — walk here, hold this, look at each other — and let the real moments happen in between. The photos that move you most are never the posed ones.
You’ll also get real guidance on timing, what to wear, where to stay in Venice, and how to get from your hotel to our starting point without getting lost in the labyrinth. I want the entire experience to feel easy, not just the photography.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a Venice photographer? For popular dates (spring and early autumn especially), I recommend booking 2–4 months in advance. For surprise proposals, as soon as you know your dates — availability can fill quickly and proposals need planning time.
What time of day is best for photos in Venice? Early morning is ideal — empty streets, soft light, and a completely different city. Sunrise sessions are my personal favourite. Golden hour (late afternoon) is also beautiful. I’ll recommend the best timing for your specific session and time of year.
What should we wear for a Venice photo session? Choose something that feels like you on a good day. Fabrics that move well (linen, silk, flowing dresses) photograph beautifully in Venice. Neutral tones and soft colours work well. Avoid very bright prints or logos. Most importantly — be comfortable.
Do you speak English? Yes, fluently. All communication, planning, and direction during the session is in English.
What if it rains? Rain in Venice is moody and romantic — reflections, emptier streets, softer light. We adapt smoothly. I never cancel for rain.
Can you help us plan the rest of our Venice trip around the session? Yes. I know this city inside out and I’m happy to suggest the best areas to stay, where to eat, how to navigate the vaporetto, and how to time everything so your day flows beautifully.
How many photos will we receive? It depends on the session length — from 40 photos (1 hour) to 250 photos (6-hour elopement). Every photo is carefully edited and delivered in an online gallery with instant download.
When do we receive the photos? Delivery times vary by package. The 4-hour Editorial Experience includes guaranteed 24-hour delivery. For other packages, delivery is typically within a few days.
Can we add film photography? Yes — film is available as an add-on for couples who want an even more timeless, nostalgic feel alongside digital.
Do you photograph in other cities or locations? Yes. While Venice is my home base, I also photograph regularly in the Dolomites (Lago di Braies), Dubai, Positano, Florence, and other destinations. If you’re planning a trip and want photos somewhere specific, get in touch.
