Dolomites Engagement Photographer — Lago di Braies, Seceda, Passo Giau & Beyond
The Dolomites don’t need filters. They don’t need perfect weather. They don’t even need sunshine — in fact, some of the most extraordinary engagement photos I’ve ever taken happened under dramatic clouds, with wind in your hair and mountains disappearing into the mist.
I’m Serena Genovese, a Dolomites engagement photographer with over 15 years of experience. If you’re not scared to wake up early, if you love adventure, if you want photos that feel alive and real — then we’re going to work very well together.

A Dolomites Engagement: this is a story of the day spent together in the Dolomites. An incredible experience. A magical place, surrounded by nature and silence.
Marco ( a great photographer ) & Nicoletta are in love with those places. They let themselves go and gave me everything, so this is the result of our photo session!

Why the Dolomites Are Extraordinary for Engagement Photography
There is nowhere in the world quite like the Dolomites. The scale is humbling. The light is constantly changing. The landscape reacts to weather in ways that make every session completely unique.
But the Dolomites also require planning. The most iconic locations — Lago di Braies, Seceda, Passo Giau, Tre Cime di Lavaredo — all have specific windows of time when they’re at their most beautiful and most private. Knowing those windows is everything.
I photograph in the Dolomites regularly throughout the year. Every season has a completely different character — and I’ll help you find the one that fits your story.
Best Locations for Engagement Photos in the Dolomites
Lago di Braies — the most iconic
Lago di Braies is the most booked Dolomites location for a reason. The turquoise lake, the historic wooden boathouse (La Palafitta), the dramatic peaks reflected in the water — it’s extraordinary.
But timing is everything here. The lake gets busy quickly. I always recommend starting at sunrise for empty shores, soft light, and that cinematic calm that makes the best photos.
Best time: Sunrise. Always.
Seceda — dramatic and elevated
Seceda is one of the most dramatic landscapes in all of Italy — jagged peaks, open meadows, and a view that makes you feel like you’re standing at the edge of the world. It’s less crowded than Braies and has a completely different, more raw and powerful energy.
Perfect for couples who want something epic and editorial.
Best time: Early morning or late afternoon for directional light across the peaks.
Passo Giau — remote and cinematic
Passo Giau is one of my personal favourites. It sits at over 2,200 metres and offers 360-degree views of the Dolomites — open, vast, and incredibly cinematic. It feels genuinely remote, even in summer.
Best time: Golden hour or moody cloudy days — the landscape is extraordinary in any weather.
Tre Cime di Lavaredo — iconic and unforgettable
The three peaks of Lavaredo are one of the most recognisable landscapes in the world. A session here is a commitment — the hike, the altitude, the elements — but the results are unlike anything else.
Best time: Sunrise for empty trails and dramatic light on the peaks.
Lago di Misurina — serene and reflective
Misurina is quieter than Braies and sits in a beautiful alpine valley with the Tre Cime visible in the distance. The lake is calm, the surroundings are green and lush, and the atmosphere is completely different — more peaceful, more intimate.
Best time: Morning for calm water reflections.
Ortisei — village charm meets mountain landscape
Ortisei is a beautiful Ladin village in the Val Gardena with easy access to meadows, forests, and mountain views. It offers a more relaxed, village-feel session with the Dolomites as backdrop — perfect for couples who want something warm and authentic rather than purely epic.
Custom Packages — multiple locations in one day
For couples who want to combine locations — Braies in the morning, Seceda or Tre Cime in the afternoon — I offer custom packages designed around your timeline. We plan the full day together, including timing, transfers, and light.

What to Expect from a Dolomites Engagement Session
The Dolomites are not Venice. Sessions here require a different kind of energy — early starts, mountain weather, sometimes a hike to reach the best spot.
Here’s what I always tell couples before we go:
Be ready for early mornings. The best light and the emptiest locations happen at sunrise. If you can commit to a 5am start, the results are extraordinary.
Don’t be afraid of clouds or wind. Dramatic weather makes dramatic photos. Some of my favourite sessions happened in fog, rain, or under heavy clouds with the mountains appearing and disappearing.
Dress for the mountains, not for a studio. Layers, comfortable shoes for walking, and something that moves in the wind. I’ll send full outfit guidance based on your location and season.
Trust the plan. I handle timing, transfers, location order, and light strategy. Your job is to show up and enjoy it.

FAQs
What are the best locations for engagement photos in the Dolomites? Lago di Braies is the most iconic. Seceda is the most dramatic. Passo Giau is the most cinematic and remote. Tre Cime di Lavaredo is the most recognisable. The right choice depends on your style, fitness level, and timeline — I’ll help you decide.
What time of year is best for Dolomites engagement photos? Summer (June–September) offers green meadows and long days. Autumn (October) brings golden colours and dramatic skies. Winter gives you snow-covered landscapes and extraordinary light. Spring is beautiful but unpredictable. Every season works — each one creates a completely different story.
Do I need to book La Palafitta at Lago di Braies? Not necessarily. La Palafitta (the boathouse and boats) can be a nice addition for longer sessions, but it’s often sold out and can involve queues. Stunning photos at Lago di Braies are absolutely possible without it. I’ll advise based on your session length and timing.
What’s the best time of day for photos at Lago di Braies? Sunrise. The lake is calm, the light is soft and golden, and the shores are empty. By mid-morning it gets busy quickly.
How early do sessions start? For sunrise sessions, typically 5–6am depending on the season. I know it sounds early — but every couple who has done it tells me it was completely worth it.
What if the weather is bad? Dramatic weather often makes the best photos. I never cancel for clouds, wind, or light rain. If conditions are genuinely unsafe, we reschedule. I always have a plan B.
Can we combine multiple Dolomites locations in one session? Yes — with the Half-Day (5h) or Full-Day (8h) packages, or a custom itinerary, we can cover multiple locations in one day. I plan the full timeline including transfers.
Do you offer film photography in the Dolomites? Yes. Film reacts beautifully to mountain light, dramatic skies, and natural landscapes. Film is available as an add-on to any session — I’ll advise on the best approach based on your location and light.
Do you photograph elopements in the Dolomites? Yes. The Full-Day Experience (8 hours, €6,550) is perfect for elopements — enough time for getting ready, vows, a long photo walk across multiple locations, and sunset light.
How do we book? Book directly at book.serenagenovese.com or send me a message with your dates and the location you have in mind. I’ll get back to you with availability and a personalised recommendation.
